Matt Cutts=Liar

1) Facebook profiles are found by Google and appear in search results, a fact so well known now that people are worried about hiding their profiles from Google. (http://hellboundbloggers.com/2011/07/24/prevent-facebook-profile-to-appear-on-google-search/) so links on Facebook profiles (nofollow or not) do count for search rankings.

2) Links from twitter may not give page rank, but can be the sole backlinking force in small niches, which proves that they do matter. See: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-do-tweets-influence-search-rankings-an-experiment-for-a-cause

3) Of course .gov and .edu links count bigger, those kinds of domains are only conceded under special conditions to authoritative entities. .edu.xx domains that can be bought by anybody don't really count though, and Google knows who owns them, since Google is actually a domain registrar. They don't sell domains, but they have access to domain registration information - so they know which kinds count and which are worthless.

This announcement marked the first time this new type of content endorsement (links within Facebook and Twitter) was actually confirmed as a ranking factor by search engines representatives.

I love how he implies nofollow actually has an impact on whether or not people will want the link.

If you have good number of likes in facebook or a twitter follower it means you have a good website traffic but it does not mean if you have lots of likes you r rank will be also good, all you need to be a high rank just have a backlink with a very good website
