What google did on or around Feb 25 was to penalize whatever website google deems as "content farm". This includes, but not is not limited to, article directories. If a website has a lot of duplicate content, whether it's copied from somewhere else or copied within the website, it'll get penalized. Just a few weeks ago I used to do a massive article directory submission with my links and found those "how to" articles pop up in the first page for the keywords I assigned to them. Not anymore. Those good days are history now. Those articles are still there, but they dropped from the 1st page of google to maybe 9 or 10th page.
