Sorry, I thought I pasted the link to the FAQ, but I guess I didn't. I was referencing:

As for the time span, go to google, search for anything you want. Then click on the search tools button, then click the any time button, then custom range and change it to whatever time you want, click go. The url bar of your browser will update with the new url, and at the end of it you will see a strip with the &tbs=xxxxxxxxxxxx which is the date range, but its encoded. You don't need the &tbm= that is on the end of the url.
Help me help you though, did you even try to go to google and figure out how to change the time span of your search? Or perhaps search google for how to do that?
